Lighting up time is (legally) half an hour after sunset until half an hour before sunrise. Though on gloomy days lights are advisable at other times too.

Just a September Saturday (yesterday) ten bikes outside Edinburgh’s John Lewis. Left by their owners going about their shopping business.
Five on the two bike racks and the rest on the railings. Certainly shows that more and more people are using bikes in the city for transport.

Was down in oxford at the weekend – god, it is AMAZING seeing 100s of bikes outside the railway station, and loads on the roads/paths. Interesting pro-bike stance amongst almost all the people I met (and all the cars stop if you cross the road as a pedestrian). How do oxford do it (both the paths, but also the positive bike attitude??!!). JC.
