THIS is Why You Have to DISMOUNT
Posted by chdot on March 4, 2008
The Council’s web site now has the ‘recommended routes’ for bikes to avoid the Shandwick Place closure. “You will need to dismount and walk your bike for the last section to Manor Place/Atholl Place.”
The metre or so next to the kerb is clearly required for contractors’ cars that obviously need to be securely caged so that they cannot be ticketed for parking without paying.
It will be different when we get the promised “model cycle friendly city“.
UPDATE 11.3.08 – there is now a NEW ‘recommended route’

So the contractors can’t cycle to work in the “model cycle friendly city”? It can be amazing how much you can carry in panniers or in a trailer.

Panniers and a trailer? I suspect the owners of these cars will need nothing more than a clipboard, boots and hard-hat, all of which they’re likely to have left in the portakabins anyway.
Joking aside, we’d better let them get on with it or the works will end up costing more than forecast and the SNP will ignore everyone else and sort it out the same way they sorted out Donald Trump’s golf course – exactly how they please.

Being a cycling Civil Engineer who frequently commutes, I’d like to see panniers that can accommadate a hard hat and a pair of riggers.
