Bike racks at Roseburn Primary School
When asked, most children between 8 and 14 say that they would like to cycle to school. The reality is that only around 2% do. City of Edinburgh Council has a good record on “Safe Routes to School”. The (former) City Development Department installed Sheffield type racks at any school that asked. In fact it ‘invented’ the “Edinburgh rack” (with an extra horizontal bar – see photo above) after schools found that small bikes were unsupported and fell over.
