MPs Call for Action on Transport Pollution

Posted by chdot on August 7, 2006

The House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee chaired by Conservative MP Tim Yeo is calling on the Government to introduce measures to reduce the impact of transport on pollution and Global Warming.

Suggestions include higher taxes on ‘gas guzzler’ cars, stricter enforcement of Motorway speed limits and taxes on air travel.

“Unless the Department for Transport raises its game, transport will go on rising so fast that almost anything else we do is going to be really useless”
Tim Yeo

Initial Government reaction was along the lines of ‘motorists/voters wouldn’t like it’ and poorer people would no longer be able to afford foreign holidays.

At least people who cycle are doing something.
