Fun and Games on the Street – and the Web

Posted by chdot on September 7, 2006

As predicted here on Monday the Council’s extension of the Controlled Parking Zones has caused a bit of a fuss.

Even though the new controls had been been coming for years (various stages of consultation completed) and the posts and notices had been up for weeks, some motorists seemed to be surprised that they were no longer allowed to park (for free) in streets that they had been using the week before.

The chaos, the anger, the blame, the headlines. By today the Evening News had decided it was all the Council’s fault.

Most interesting have been the comments of members of the public in The Scotsman and Evening News comment sections. Inevitably there have been motorists who ‘expect’ to be able to park anywhere because they ‘have paid Road Tax’. There are also quite a few Edinburgh residents who are glad that there are now fewer commuter cars in ‘their’ street. There are also people with interesting points of view on how Edinburgh’s transport ‘system’ could be better.
