More Tools for Bike Station

Edinburgh’s successful bicycle based social enterprise The Bike Station has been awarded an Awards For All grant.

The application was for “workstands, floor mats, tools, tool and parts cabinets, worktops, counter displays and a vice bench”. This will give a significant boost to the appearance and capacity of The Bike Station’s new premises off Causewayside. (Map)

As Manager Mark Sydenham says “it’s a chance to make the ‘shopfront’ look very professional.”

New tools will mean that there will be more for use by people maintaining their bikes at the ‘Fix Your Own Bike’ sessions (FYOB) and also for anyone on a Build Your Own Bike (BYOB) course.

The Bike Station also converts donated bikes into fully working machines that can be sold to raise funds or used in a wide range of community projects. It’s now much easier for people to deliver their unwanted bikes to the new home than it was to the basement at Waverley!
